The California Police and Fire Summer Games are hosted by alternate agencies rotating from Northern California to Southern California and usually take place in August.
There are over 40 different athletic events. The events ranged from bass fishing to karate to triathlons. The goal of the games is to encourage physical fitness, friendships, and athletic competition among the law enforcement officers and firefighters throughout the State of California.
In the 2001 competiton,Officers Steve Pettit and Brad Johnson competed in the Police Motorcycle Competition. The competition included a uniform & motorcycle inspection conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps and an obstacle course, which was judged for time and synchronization. Officers Pettit and Johnson won a bronze medal in the time obstacle course. This was their first attempt at this competition and they finished 8th overall out of 14 teams.
Also representing Redwood City Police in 2001, Officers Val Cook, Karen Neal, & Luann Livingston competed in the women's slow pitch softball event. The team was made up of female officers from several surrounding agencies and they brought home a medal for 5th place. Officer Neal also competed on a combined team for women's soccer and won a gold medal for the third year in a row. Officer Eric Stasiak competed in the triathlon event and won a bronze medal.
