The Property Unit is responsible for the storage, maintenance and disposition of all evidence and miscellaneous property that is collected by Officers and CSO's in the course of their duties.

The Unit consists of two non-sworn Community Service Officers (CSO's).  They are responsible for logging all items that are booked into Property and storing them according to their corresponding category: evidence, found property, safekeeping, etc.  They also work closely with the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office and provide them with items of evidentiary value to cases during investigation and/or trial.  In addition, the Property Unit also works closely with the San Mateo County Crime Lab in coordinating the analysis and testing of particular evidence items.

In an average year, the Unit receives and processes over 6,000 items of evidence.
