The Street Crime Suppression Team (SCST) is a collaborative effort between the Redwood City Police Department and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department dedicated to combating street-level gang and drug-related activities. The Unit is currently staffed by Redwood City Police Department Detectives Russ Felker and Andrea Higgens and San Mateo County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Rangel. The Street Crime Suppression Team is supervised by Sergeant Paul Sheffield.

This flexible and mobile plain-clothes unit proactively addresses “hot spots,” or areas of emerging concern in the community, as well as developing confidential informants and executing search and arrest warrants.

Originally developed in 1996 strictly to combat rising gang problems, the team has expanded its focus to include narcotics, graffiti, and prostitution, as well as residential and auto burglaries.

They work closely with county probation and parole departments to monitor at-risk offenders, and assist the United States Marshalls’ Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team, tracking down federal criminals who are at-large in San Mateo County.
