Spring 2015 Landscape Education Program

Free ClassesSponsored by the City of Redwood City and the Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency (BAWSCA)

BAWSCA member agencies offer several classes throughout the Bay Area every Spring and Fall.

This SPRING  Redwood City is hosting four classes.  Learn how to maintain or create a beautiful garden while conserving water during the drought. The City of Redwood City Conservation Program invites all residents to participate 9 am-noon on these dates:

Classes are designed to introduce homeowners, commercial property managers, landscape service providers, and others to the concepts of water-efficient and sustainable landscaping.

Maintaining Existing Landscape During a Drought

Instructed By: Deva Luna
Discover how simple changes to your landscape maintenance practices can help your garden thrive while reducing your water use!  Learn about irrigation system maintenance, watering schedules, soil amendment, and mulching.  Discover water-efficient irrigation alternatives such as drip irrigation and graywater reuse.

Drought Resistant Landscape Designs

Instructed By: Alane Weber
The class will discuss the elements that go into thinking about planning a garden, with a focus on a drought tolerant design. The class will include discussion on how to do it yourself, how to work with a designer, and how to choose a contractor.

How-to-Install Laundry to Landscape Graywater

Instructed By: Christina Bertea
Learn how you can simply and safely reuse water from sinks, showers and washing machines to irrigate plants. The class will discuss residential graywater reuse and will demonstrate how to construct a “laundry to landscape” graywater system.

Saturday, April 11th, 9:00am-12:00pm
How-to-Convert Spray Irrigation to Drip

Instructed By: Frank Niccoli
This class will demonstrate water-conserving irrigation strategies and how to evaluate your irrigation system for upgrades. Learn basic drip irrigation design and installation, component selection, watering techniques, and the proper system maintenance for your landscaping. (Location: Redwood City Public Works - 1400 Broadway)
