Redwood City's Toilet Rebate Program Uses Key Performance Standards to Ensure High Quality Toilets

The Redwood City Toilet Rebate Program uses two Performance Standards to ensure that the toilet models which customers purchase will provide High-Flushing Performance and Lifetime Water Savings.

  • High-Flushing Performance: Redwood City’s Program sets the flushing performance standard at 500 grams, which is twice the minimum of 250 grams flushing performance standard set by an independent toilet Maximum Performance Study (MaP Study). That study tested all the toilet models and ranked them according to their flushing performance.
  • Lifetime Water Savings: To ensure the best long-term water savings, Redwood City’s Program adopted the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power Specification, regarding flapper durability in gravity-fed models. This level of flapper durability ensures that you won't ever have to replace a flapper with one that uses more water, which would erode or reduce the intended water savings.
