Student Spotlight

What is it? | When is it? | How to apply | Questions

The Redwood City Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department and the Redwood City Cultural Commission are pleased to announce the new Student Spotlight Program.

What is it?
The Student Spotlight Program is chance for youth to showcase their skills in front of a large audience. You may have heard about the excitement all over Redwood City, from the “Summer in the City” program, and concerts at Stafford Park, Marlin Park, and Courthouse Square. Last year included dozens of concerts, dances, movies and other events. In 2008, we not only want to continue this energy and experience, but we also want to highlight Redwood City youth who are participating in the arts. An audition may be held if a large volume of applications are received.

The objective of the Student Spotlight segment is to acknowledge and appreciate young talent in our community. The program provides the opportunity for the artist to perform in front family, peers, and our community in a familiar, informal setting. This short program will consist of a 5 to 10 minute piece performed during the intermission of the concerts.

When is it?

The concert dates for 2008 are:
Fridays at Courthouse Square: May 30th to October 3rd
Wednesdays at Stafford Park: June 25th to August 13th

The focus will be on, but not limited to: Musical duos, trios, or solos; Sing/chorus/chant performances; and Poetry and spoken word recitals.

Again, this will only be short performances due to the timing of the breaks and you must be able to set up, perform, and be off the stage – all within all within a 10 minute time period. Students 17 and under must be accompanied to the event by an adult.
