Objective

Provide water customers with high quality water at the lowest possible costs.

Overview

waterRedwood City is committed to providing its water customers with high quality water at the lowest possible cost.  Currently, the City purchases all of its drinking water from the Hetch Hetchy regional water system operated by the San Francisco Public Utility Commission  (SFPUC).  This water system delivers approximately 260 millions gallons of water per day, providing water to 2.4 million people in San Francisco, Santa Clara, Alameda and San Mateo counties.

Redwood City’s water system covers approximately 10.3 square miles.  It serves the City of Redwood City and unincorporated regions, including Cañada College and the Emerald Lake Hills area.  Service is provided between Highways 280 and 101, Whipple Avenue and Marsh Road east of Highway 101, and in the Redwood Shores development.  The system has 208 miles of distribution mains, 12 storage reservoirs with 21 million gallons of capacity, 10 pump stations, 1812 fire hydrants, 17 pressure zones and 5376 valves.
