Join artist and educator Mauricio Cordero for a hands-on workshop about creating non-fiction comics inspired by news reports, research articles, and personal recollections. We’ll examine what make comics different from other media, then use that knowledge to create original scripts for visual stories.
Mauricio Cordero is a lecturer in the Comparative Media Studies/Writing Department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His current project, BORDERx: A Crisis in Graphic Detail, is novel-length comics anthology exploring issues of migration, asylum, and racism at our borders. The published anthology will spearhead a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for the South Texas Human Rights Center, an organization working directly with migrants in need. Learn more about BORDERx at https://border-x.com/. Story submissions are being accepted until February 2020.
