The Redwood City Library Foundation is holding a fundraiser in recognition of Banned Books Week.
Starting at the Library, stroll through downtown Redwood City with fellow RCLF supporters and enjoy a libation at Alhambra, Angelicas, Blacksmith, City Pub, CRU, Gourmet Haus Staudt, Little Green, LV Mar, Quinto Sol, The BottleShop, The Hub, and The Sandwich Spot. Each pub will feature a banned book with an RCLF board member to answer questions. Your ticket will entitle you to discounted drinks (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) at each of the locations identified with a secret chalk logo on the sidewalk.
In 1922 there were Speakeasies – pubs had to quietly let people know where they could share a drink. In 2022, we are making sure libraries don’t have to become the speakeasies for Banned Books! Banning books is banning stories, and banning people’s stories is banning people. Banning someone’s truth is banning their humanity (Schuyler Bailar- Educator, Author, Advocate).
