Learn how to paint a beautiful and colorful Catrina/Catrin face for Día de los Muertos. To participate you will have to bring a model – a friend or family member to practice on. All materials are provided by the Library. Space is limited. Contact Heriberto Madrigal to signup.
Day of the Dead is celebrated every year on November 1st and 2nd. This tradition has a very ancient and profound history that goes back more than 3,000 years, when Mesoamerican cultures such as the Olmecs, Mayans, and Mexicas honored their ancestors with offerings, songs, and dances. With the arrival of the Spanish, these traditions blended with All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, giving rise to the celebration we know today. It is a festivity that brings together children, youth, adults, and elders, as everyone shares in the memory, the art, and the love for those who have passed away.
This year, the community celebration of Day of the Dead in Redwood City will take place on November 2nd at Courthouse Square. For more information about this great festivity, click here.

Aprende a pintar un bello y colorido rostro de Catrina o Catrín para el Día de los Muertos. Para participar, deberás traer un modelo —un amigo o un familiar— en quien puedas practicar. Todos los materiales son proporcionados por la biblioteca. El cupo es limitado. Para registrarte, comunícate con Heriberto Madrigal.
El Día de los Muertos se celebra cada año el 1 y 2 de noviembre. Esta tradición tiene una historia muy antigua y profunda que se remonta a más de 3,000 años, cuando culturas mesoamericanas como los olmecas, mayas y mexicas honraban a sus ancestros con ofrendas, cantos y danzas. Con la llegada de los españoles, estas tradiciones se entrelazaron con el Día de Todos los Santos y el Día de los Fieles Difuntos, dando origen a la celebración que conocemos hoy. Es una festividad que une a niños, jóvenes, adultos y personas mayores, pues todos comparten la memoria, el arte y el amor por quienes ya partieron.
Este año, la celebración comunitaria de Día de los Muertos en Redwood City será el 2 de noviembre en la Plaza del Juzgado (Courthouse Square).
