Celebrate Juneteenth by creating a unique and beautiful art piece honoring Black food traditions. In this activity we will use gel printing plates and acrylic paint to create vibrant, textural, one-of-a-kind prints on paper, with guest artist Lauren Toomer. All materials will be provided. In the Makerspace.
For ages 6+
Lauren Toomer is a visual artist whose figurative work explores fragmentation, stillness, impermanence, and the quiet threshold where form and absence meet. She earned her BA from UC Berkeley, and her MFA in Art Practice from Stanford University, where she also completed clinical anatomy coursework. Toomer holds joint lecturing appointments in Stanford’s Department of Art & Art History and Surgery, where she developed the university’s art and anatomy curriculum and teaches drawing, painting, and interdisciplinary courses. She also serves as the director of visual arts for the Medical Humanities and the Arts Program at Stanford School of Medicine. Selected highlights include permanent installations at the Fair Oaks Health Center, Kaiser Permanente Headquarters, and Stanford’s CCSR Building; exhibitions at the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery and the Museum of Craft and Design, and Art on Paper.
