Redwood City, Calif. - The City of Redwood City announced today the launch of a new shuttle program allowing seniors to enjoy free events organized by the City. The Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services (PRCS) Department will offer a new senior shuttle to downtown events starting June 5, 2015.

The program will provide transportation for residents aged 60 and over from the Veterans Memorial Senior Center at 1455 Madison Avenue in Redwood City to various concerts in the courthouse square located in Downtown. Seniors who want to use the shuttle can reserve a space the day before each event by calling the City of Redwood City PRCS Department. The shuttle will depart two hours prior to each show and return one hour afterwards.

"This shuttle is an exciting new addition to our robust senior services program," said Redwood City Mayor Jeffrey Gee. "The City Council is proud of the fact that Redwood City is a community for all ages, and this new pilot program will ensure that our senior community can enjoy the vibrancy of our downtown area and free events offered by the City."

PRCS operates an existing senior shuttle program that provides transportation from residents' homes to the Veterans Memorial Senior Center and back. The department will adjust the new shuttle program throughout its first few months after gauging usage and surveying seniors to discover what downtown events they're most interested in attending.

The senior shuttle will provide transportation to the following downtown events this summer:

  • Friday, June 5, Peter Michael Escovedo All-Stars (Percussion)

  • Friday, June 12, Earl Thomas and the Blues Ambassadors (Blues)

  • Friday, June 19, Caravanserai, Santana Tribute

  • Saturday, June 20, Redwood Symphony

  • Sunday, July 12, Opera San Jose

  • Friday, July 17, Steel 'n' Chicago, Steely Dan and Chicago Tribute

  • Friday, July 24, Jesse James Band Featuring Big Bones (Blues)

  • Friday, August 14, Chris Gardner Band (Country)

  • Friday, August 21, Petty Theft, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Tribute

  • Friday, August 28, Foreverland, Michael Jackson Tribute

  • Friday, September 4, Pride and Joy (Pop/Soul)

  • Sunday, September 13, Bayshore Lyric Opera
