18TH ANNUAL COUNTY-WIDE MEMORIAL SERVICE SCHEDULED TO HONOR FALLEN PUBLIC SAFETY MEMBERS

REDWOOD CITY, CALIF - Local public safety agencies throughout San Mateo County will take part in the 18th Annual San Mateo County Public Safety Memorial Service on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019. The community is invited to this annual special commemoration to honor fallen public safety professionals, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. in the Cunningham Memorial Chapel at Notre Dame de Namur University, located at 1500 Ralston Avenue in Belmont. The service will be non-denominational and will be followed by an informal reception.

This formal tribute is organized annually by Greg Da Cunha, a Battalion Chief with the Redwood City Fire Department, whose personal interest in the effort stems from the loss of his friend and co-worker, Firefighter Matt Smith, who died in the line of duty in 2001. This memorial tribute is a County-wide way to recognize those public safety professionals who have passed, and honor those who selflessly serve the public.

Local public safety agencies including police and fire departments, California Highway Patrol, American Medical Response, the County Sheriff's Office and other agencies from San Mateo County will all have representatives present to read the names of their fallen members and retirees who have passed away. Members of the San Mateo County Chaplaincy will conduct the ceremony. Ceremonial music will be offered by the Silicon Valley Pipe Band of Saratoga.

For more information about this event, contact Greg DaCunha with the Redwood City Fire Department at 408-930-1532 or gdacunha@redwoodcity.org.
