Redwood City Launches Peninsula’s First Entertainment Zone on Broadway Pedestrian Mall

Pilot activations will bring live music, games, and new downtown experiences to Broadway this summer

Redwood City, CA - Redwood City is inviting the community to experience Broadway in a new way this summer with the launch of the Peninsula’s first Entertainment Zone on the Broadway Pedestrian Mall.

The City’s first three Entertainment Zone activations will take place on:

  • Thursday, June 11, 3-5 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 20, 1-3:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 18, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Visitors can expect games, live music, and unique downtown experiences at each activation. The July 18 activation will also serve as a pre-event for the Soccer on the Square third-place match watch party at Courthouse Square, creating another opportunity for residents and visitors to enjoy downtown before gathering for the match.

“Downtown Redwood City is already one of the Peninsula’s most vibrant public spaces, and the Entertainment Zone gives us another way to support local businesses, bring people together, and create a welcoming experience on Broadway,” said Mayor Elmer Martínez Saballos. “This pilot builds on that energy and gives residents and visitors another reason to come downtown, stay longer, and enjoy everything Broadway has to offer.”

On May 11, 2026, the City Council adopted an ordinance establishing one Entertainment Zone in Redwood City, located on the 2000 block of Broadway between Jefferson Avenue and Main Street, and along Redwood Creek from Broadway to the Main Street Parking Lot.

An Entertainment Zone is a designated area where visitors may consume alcoholic beverages in public spaces, such as streets, sidewalks, or plazas, during specified days and hours and under operational conditions established by the City. In Redwood City, adults 21 and older may consume alcohol in the Entertainment Zone only when it is active. Participating businesses will serve alcohol in designated cups, and no outside alcohol is allowed into or out of the Entertainment Zone.

Redwood City’s Entertainment Zone can only be activated during a City Special Event. Businesses and residents will be notified at least 72 hours before each activation, and events may take place any day of the week between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., as long as at least one business in the zone participates. Only businesses with doors that exit onto the Entertainment Zone are allowed to sell alcohol for consumption in the zone.

The pilot activations are part of the City’s broader efforts to support downtown vitality, encourage foot traffic, and create new opportunities for residents, visitors, and businesses to enjoy public spaces in the heart of Redwood City.
