City Requiring Masks at Indoor City Facilities to Support Public Health

The Delta variant, which is more contagious and spreads more easily and quickly than other COVID-19 variants, has become the dominant strain in California and is now responsible for more than 80 percent of COVID-19 cases nationwide. Based on rising cases, San Mateo County officials announced new measures to protect younger children and overall public health.

On July 16, San Mateo County encouraged everyone to wear masks indoors, even if they are vaccinated, and on July 22, San Mateo County announced that visitors to indoor County facilities will be required to wear masks effective July 26.

Based on the updated health guidance, Redwood City will require masks for staff and visitors to indoor City facilities effective Tuesday, July 27. Free masks are available.

Bay Area Health Officers will continue to monitor COVID-19 transmission rates, hospitalizations, deaths, and vaccination rates in the coming weeks and will make further recommendations as needed. Redwood City will continue to follow all health and safety guidelines for staff and members of the public visiting City facilities.

Thank you for your continued cooperation!

Redwood City Reimagined

In response to guidance from public health officials, most City facilities began to offer only virtual services in March 2020 to protect public health due to the COVID-10 pandemic. Essential City services and COVID-19 response and relief services, including, Police, Fire, public utilities, public infrastructure, and social services have continued to operate in-person with safety modifications in place to protect both members of the public and City staff.
