Economic Development & Business Resources
The City of Redwood City maintains an Economic Development Office to implement the economic development goals of the City. Services include business attraction and site selection assistance, access to labor force data and community demographics, business recruitment and business retention and expansion assistance. The goal of these efforts is to market the City’s many economic advantages in order to enhance the competitiveness of our local economy and to maintain a strong and diverse revenue and job base on the Peninsula.
Economic Development Work Plan
Redwood City has experienced a major transformation as a community primarily due to new residential and commercial development and a positive change to Redwood City's image and its desirability as a location for new residents and businesses. The City's Downtown has also undergone a significant change and now thrives as a destination for workers, residents and visitors.
Economic development plays a critical role in implementing the vision of making Redwood City a community where people of all backgrounds and income levels can thrive, and the mission of building a welcoming Redwood City through collaboration, responsiveness and excellence.
Housing, transportation and children and youth remain Redwood City’s strategic priorities, and all touch economic vitality, one of the City’s guiding principles.
The economic development office’s goal is to support Redwood City’s economic prosperity by attracting, retaining, and expanding a diverse mix of businesses that meet community needs.
On April 15, 2024, the City Council adopted a two-year Economic Development Work Plan for FY2024-2026. The staff report and presentation outline the priorities, which include:
- Small Businesses;
- Existing and New Office Users;
- Customer Service Enhancements;
- Other Revenue Generating Efforts; and
- Workforce Development and Economic Mobility
The City’s decision to include workforce development in the Economic Development Work Plan aligns with the City’s vision and shows support for larger Economic Mobility efforts in the county and state.
