Board of Building Review
Section 2.112 of the Municipal Code establishes the Board of Building Review. It consists of five members, appointed by the City Council who are qualified by experience and training in the building construction fields. Members serve staggered four year terms that commence June 1 and expire May 31 of even numbered years.
The basic duties and responsibilities of the Board of Building Review are as follows:
- To review the updating of the City's building regulatory codes including suggested local amendments and provide recommendations to the City Council pertinent to the adoption of such codes;
- To determine the suitability of alternate materials and types of construction with respect to the requirements of Chapter 9 of the City Code;
- To hear appeals of people denied a building permit, inspection approval or certificate of occupancy for the reason that the material intended for use or the type of construction to be employed is not deemed to be in compliance with Chapter 9 of the City Code. Decisions of the Board in the case of such appeals are binding upon the Building Official and Building Inspector.
The Board of Building Review meets on the call of the chairperson, usually at the request of the Building and Inspection Division of the Department of Community Development.
