Thank you for your interest in serving on one of Redwood City’s Boards, Commissions, or Committees!

Redwood City’s Boards, Commissions, and Committees play an important role in civic life by providing input on policies, programs, and projects that affect the community. Members collaborate with City staff and elected officials to offer recommendations on topics ranging from arts and culture to housing, parks, planning, and services for older adults.

The City is currently seeking applicants to fill vacancies on the following bodies:

  • Arts Commission – 3 full-term seats expiring May 31, 2030
  • Board of Building Review – 2 full-term seats expiring May 31, 2030
  • Board of Port Commissioners – 2 full-term seats expiring July 31, 2030
  • Housing and Human Concerns Committee – 4 full-term seats expiring May 31, 2030
  • Library Board – 3 full-term seats expiring June 30, 2030
  • Planning Commission – 2 full-term seats expiring June 30, 2030
  • Historic Resources Advisory Committee (appointed by the Planning Commission) – 2 full-term seats expiring May 31, 2029
  • Architectural Advisory Committee (appointed by the Planning Commission) – 1 full-term seat expiring May 31, 2030
  • Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission – 4 full-term seats expiring May 31, 2030
  • Senior Affairs Commission – 1 partial-term seat expiring May 31, 2028 and 3 full-term seats expiring May 31, 2030

Most positions are open to Redwood City residents who are interested in civic involvement. In general, applicants must be at least 18 years old, eligible to vote, and residents of incorporated Redwood City. However, eligibility requirements vary by body. Some Boards, Commissions, and Committees allow members as young as 16 years old, non-U.S. citizens, or residents of unincorporated Redwood City. Certain positions may also include additional requirements, special exceptions, or preferred areas of expertise depending on the role.
