Representing Redwood City: Multiple Ways to Share Input on Where to Draw City Council Election District Boundaries

The Redwood City Advisory Redistricting Committee (ARC) wants your ideas about where to draw the lines for electing City Councilmembers for the next decade. The final results of the 2020 Census are in, and the data shows how our community has changed in the past 10 years. Using that information, the ARC is asking the community for their help balancing all 84,423 Redwood City residents among 7 City Council districts.

Watch this video to learn why it is important for you to get involved with the Redistricting process!

Participate Your Way.

Redistricting is a community-driven process and there are many ways to get involved.

Tasked with providing a recommended map(s) to the City Council by December 6, 2021, the ARC invites the community to get involved with the District Mapping process either online, in-person or by mailing in draft maps (English, Chinese and Spanish) for consideration.

DistrictR Mapping Software. To ease the process, the City has launched a mapping software that enables individuals to draw 7 City Council Districts maps with 2020 Census data and is able to verify that submitted draft maps meet legal requirements, including:

  • District populates that are reasonably equal in population (about 12,060 residents per district)
  • Districts are geographically contiguous, while considering topography, geography, cohesiveness, continuity, integrity, and compactness
