Important Notes:

  • You must be an elector and resident of incorporated Redwood City to serve on most Redwood City Boards, Commissions and Committees. Some BCCs have other qualifications. See exceptions below.*
  • All Board, Commission and Committee members serve without compensation. 
  • This survey consists of 30+ questions, including a request for three references with email addresses, employment information, and job qualifications. Once you begin, your application cannot be saved and completed at a later time. The average time to complete the application is about one hour.
  • You must click the "I agree" button to complete and send in your application – this is the last question which reads as follows: I understand that this application is a public document and its contents will be disclosed upon request, and any misrepresentation or deliberate omission of a material fact in this application may be justification for refusal or termination of appointment. I also authorize persons knowledgeable of the information stated herein to give any additional information regarding my qualifications and character. I hereby release said persons from any liability for any damages whatsoever for issuing this information.

         * Important exceptions

  • Architectural Advisory Committee  (Appointed by the Planning Commission) - All five members of the AAC shall be licensed architects or landscape architects residing or working in the City of Redwood City, or its sphere of influence (as described by and in the General Plan of the City of Redwood City).
  • Arts Commission -  At least four (4) such members shall be persons active in, and representative of, one or more of the following fields of endeavor: architecture, industrial design, landscape architecture, literature, music, painting, photography, sculpture, and theater arts. All such members shall be persons who have demonstrated a deep interest in, and appreciation of, artistic and cultural matters. All such members shall, at the time of their appointment and continuously during their incumbency reside within the City.
  • Board of Building Review - Shall consist of five (5) members appointed by the Council who are qualified by experience and training in the building construction fields.
  • Historic Resources Advisory Committee (Appointed by the Planning Commission) - The Committee shall consist of five (5) members who shall be appointed from, but not limited to, such professions, disciplines and interests as: members of the Redwood City Heritage Association and other preservation related organizations; licensed architects and structural engineers; urban planners and landscape architects; attorneys and real estate experts; members of community groups and residents within historic districts, occupants of historic landmarks and owners of historic sites. Not less than four (4) members shall, at the time of their appointment and continuously during their incumbency, be residents and electors of the City.
  • Housing and Human Concerns Committee - Members are appointed from interested and committed citizens of the City, of which no more than two (2) members may be appointed from interested and committed residents of the unincorporated area of Redwood City.
  • Library Board -  All members shall be residents and electors of the city at the time of their appointments and continuously during their incumbencies.
  • Planning Commission - Members serve without compensation and cannot hold any other public office or position in the City while serving as members of the Commission.
  • Port Commission - No person shall be appointed as a member of the Board who is not at the time of his or her appointment, and has not been continuously for three (3) years immediately preceding, a resident and elector of the City of Redwood City. All members of the commission shall continuously and during their incumbencies be residents and electors of the City.
  • Senior Affairs Commission - At least four (4) such members shall be persons active in, and representative of, one or more of the following fields of endeavor: A.) Senior citizens' planning; B.) Provision of senior citizens' services; C.) Senior clubs or senior associations. At least one such member shall be representative of a minority ethnic group in the City. All such members shall be persons who have demonstrated a deep interest in, and appreciation of, senior citizen matters within the City. Not less than four (4) such members shall, at the time of their appointment and continuously during their incumbency, be residents and electors of the City.
