General Municipal Election Details
The next General Municipal Election in Redwood City will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Under Redwood City’s new district elections system, voters will only elect one Council Member for the City Council based on the district in which they are registered to vote. City Council seats in districts 2, 5, and 6will be up for election in November 2022. Voters in districts 1, 3, 4, and 7 will not be voting to elect a Council Member during that election.
The following seats are held by the Council Members whose current at-large terms will end in November 2020.
- District 1: Vacant
- District 3: Janet Borgens
- District 4: Vacant
- District 7: Alicia Aguirre
The following seats are held by the Council Members whose current at-large terms will end in November 2022.
- District 2: Giselle Hale
- District 5: Diane Howard
- District 6: Diana Reddy
*The November 3, 2020 General Municipal Election was the first by-district City Council election. As the current Councilmembers serve the Redwood City community at large, the vacant seats in districts 1, 3, 4 and 7 are considered new seats which no one has yet filled.

Enforcement of Voluntary Expenditure Limits
Candidates who agree to limit campaign contributions and expenditures but subsequently violate the ordinance shall, within seventy-two (72) hours of the City’s knowledge of the violation:
- Have notice of the violation forwarded to a newspaper of general circulation for publication
- Have notice of the violation posted on the City’s website
- Have notice of the violation posted at a reasonably accessible location at City Hall
- Result in the removal of the 400-word written candidate statement from the City’s website, unless a fee is paid in which case the statement will then be relocated below statements from candidates that agree to voluntary expenditure limits, in accordance with Section 2.154(D)
