New Building Code Effective January 1, 2026 

The city adopted the 2025 California Building Standards Code with local amendments, which becomes effective on January 1, 2026, and replaces the current 2022 code.

Counter Operations

  Walk-in service are available on first come first service basis based on staff availability and open appointment slots. We strongly encourage electronic submittals. 

Majority of counter staff is working remotely to continue to provide electronic permitting services. To submit a new application or to contact staff with questions, please email permits@redwoodcity.org. Please be advised, there is currently a large volume of requests . During this time, it may take up to 3 days to receive a response.

Permit Submittal

To apply for a building or fire permit, or revise an existing permit, follow the guidelines below. 

1. Complete and submit the building permit application or revision application

2. Upload a completed permit application to this link: https://redwoodcitypermits.app.box.com/f/90b353e5a4094aa0b9b6763fc206fbf1

3. The filename for the application must include the project address along with the words “Permit application.” For example, “1017 Middlefield Permit Application.” 

4. If your project includes construction drawings and documents, please upload the files with the building permit application to the link specified above. The files must also be named with the address. Make sure to name the files with the address; otherwise, we will not accept the application or files. 

5. Once the permit application and additional documents are uploaded, please email permits@redwoodcity.org to confirm the complete submittal.
