Stanford in Redwood City Precise Plan
About
The Stanford in Redwood City Precise Plan was approved by City Council on September 9, 2013. The campus occupies a 35-acre portion of a larger 48-acre (former Mid-Point Technology Park) campus that is intersected by Broadway and bounded by Highway 101, Douglas Avenue, Bay Road and Second Avenue. The project includes administrative offices, research and development, and medical clinic space.
The Stanford Outpatient Center project was approved in 2006 prior to the adoption of the Stanford in Redwood City Precise Plan. Click here for the Planning Commission staff report, and here for the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Report.
First Phase of Development
In December 2016, Stanford was approved by the City Council for the first phase of development permitted under this Precise Plan. See here for more information. This phase has been completed.
Development Agreement Extension
In October 2023, the City Council approved the first 10-year term extension of the Development Agreement (DA) until 12.3.33. A second 10-year extension may be requested prior to expiration of the agreement, per terms of the DA. For more information regarding the extension, reference the City Council staff report here.
Second Phase of Development
In December 2023, Phase 2 (Blocks C & E) of the development of the Precise Plan was approved by the Planning Commission. The Block E development is currently under construction.
Stanford Medicine Cancer Center
In March 2026, Stanford Health Care submitted a request to initiate an amendment to the 2013 Stanford Precise Plan and the City’s General Plan to allow Stanford to further study a Medicine Cancer Center. See here for more information.
