Permit Submittal

Quick Steps

1. Complete and submit the building permit application or revision application.

2. Upload a completed permit application to this link: https://permits.redwoodcity.org/eTRAKiT/

3. The filename for the application must include the project address along with the words “Permit application.” For example, “1017 Middlefield Permit Application.”

4. If your project includes construction drawings and documents, please upload the files with the building permit application to the link specified above. The files must also be named with the address. Make sure to name the files with the address; otherwise, we will not accept the application or files.

5. Once you've successfully created your permit and have uploaded the proper documents, your permit will be assigned to a specific permit technician who will reach out to you with further instructions. Please note that responses may take up to 5 business days, depending on the technician's workload. For all other inquiries, please email permits@redwoodcity.org.

Once the application is deemed complete, the permit technician will ask for payment. If the amount due is less than $25,000, we will ask for an email address to email the invoice through Authorize.net. Payment should be made through the online portal. If the amount is over $25,000, a bank wire transfer will need to be made. 

Once payment has been confirmed one of two things will happen: 

Permit will be issued OR A Box link will be provided for you to upload plans and documents. 

Fees can be paid in person, online, or by bank wire transfer. Amounts over $25,000 must be bank wire transfer.

Authorize.net is an online credit card payment portal. A permit technician will create an invoice in Authorize.net, who will send the invoice by email with a link to a secure site for payment. Once the transaction is complete, staff will receive email confirmation that a payment has been made.

All documents should be submitted as a PDF or Word document.

If you do not have a BOX account, you can create a free account.  

• Go to Box.com
• Click on “Get Started”   
• Choose the “Individual Plans” tab, then click "Sign up" under the Free option 
• Follow prompts to create your free account 
• Upload documents to the City provided Box file link

• Fill out a revision statement  
• Email to permits@redwoodcity.org 
• Staff will assign a permit technician to process the request  
• Permit technician will provide Box file link 
• Upload documents to provided Box file link 
• Notify the permit technician that the files were uploaded

Though the process has changed, we are still providing “One Stop” appointment services.  “One Stop” appointments are conducted virtually using Zoom. 

• Email application to permits@redwoodcity.org 
• Permit technician will be assigned to process application 
• Pay plan check fees via Authorize.net invoice sent by permit technician 
• Upload plans to Box file link provided by permit technician 
• Notify permit technician that files were uploaded 
• Permit technician will forward your application and plans to a plan reviewer  
• Plan reviewer will contact applicant to set up an appointment 
• Plan reviewer will provide a link to a Zoom meeting via email 

Please fill out Attachment B of the Construction & Demolition recycling form. Once complete, please create one (1) PDF with Attachment B and facility weight tickets, then email them to permits@redwoodcity.org. If you need assistance, please look at the instructions on how to fill out Attachment B here.

For TCO deposit requests, please email permits@redwoodcity.org a copy of the signed off permit and a letter requesting the return of the deposit. Please make sure to include information on where you would like the deposit returned. If the person/account is different from the original payee, please also provide a release letter for the deposit to be released to someone other than the original payee.

For the following Planning Projects, applications can be submitted online at https://permits.redwoodcity.org/etrakit/ under Planning Projects.

• Address Permit - Create or Change
• Sign Permit
• Zoning Permit Letter

Staff are in the process of rolling out online submittals for additional Planning Project types. For other Planning Project types not listed on the eTrakIt portal under Planning Projects, email planning@redwoodcity.org your plan sets and other necessary information. You may use an online service to upload project plans and documents to transfer them to staff.

Authorize.net is an online credit card payment portal. The Engineering permit technician will create an invoice in Authorize.net, and will send the invoice by email with a link to a secure site for payment. Once the transaction is complete, staff will receive email confirmation that a payment has been made.

All documents should be submitted as a PDF. Please review the permit requirements on the Engineering Permits & Fees section of the website. 

The contact information for the Engineering Inspector assigned to your permit can be found within the issued permit. Inspectors will need to be contacted a minimum of 48 hours prior to the start of work; however, based on demand, additional time maybe to needed to schedule an inspection.
