California's Safely Surrendered Baby Law was introduced in 2001, and made into law in 2006. The law has saved the lives of many newborn infants who might otherwise have been abandoned in unsafe locations. Under the law, parents and other persons with lawful custody may safely surrender infants within 72 hours of birth, with no charges filed and no questions asked.

CERT Program Transitioncommunity building and communication

The City is developing a shared service approach for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) services in partnership with the County’s Office of Emergency Services. The shared services approach ensures the sustainability of the program as the City employs creative approaches to ensure a balanced budget.

The City of Redwood City and City of San Carlos appreciates the community input received so far and information gained will help ensure that the County CERT program serves Redwood City and San Carlos well.

Engine 12 Back in Station 12 on Sunday, October 28

Construction is complete and Engine 12 will return to Station 12 this Sunday, October 28. Since October 15, Engine 12 relocated to a Woodside Fire Station located nearby at 4091 Jefferson Avenue due to unanticipated construction scheduled at Redwood City Fire Station 12. This relocation does not affect public safety services and all residents are encouraged to continue to call 9-1-1 for emergencies. The closest active Fire Stations to Station 12 during the temporary relocation will be stations located at 4091 Jefferson Avenue and 2190 Jefferson Avenue in Redwood City.
