Special Olympics Power Lifting
In 1991 the Redwood City Fire Department entered into an agreement with Special Olympics for use of Station 9’s training and weight rooms to train developmentally disabled athletes in weight conditioning and healthy lifestyle adjustments. Since that time, dedicated Redwood City Firefighters have helped train, build badly needed equipment and put on statewide competition events at different locations throughout Redwood City.
This program for Special Olympics Athletes has also attracted volunteers from our Redwood City Business Community. One of those volunteers is now the primary co-trainer and coach of the program, dedicating countless hours each week from her management duties at SMAC Industries.
The motto much seen among Special Olympics Athletes has turned into a reality at RCFD as each challenged person recites: “Let Me Win, But If I Cannot Win Let Me Be Brave in the Attempt”. At Fire Station 9 it’s all about spirit and spunk!
