Join the City of Redwood City in celebrating Juneteenth through a variety of special programs throughout the month of June. A special Visual Arts Display will explore artwork created by artists from the local Bay Area, and across America. Displays will be hosted at the Downtown Library, the Redwood Shores Branch Library and the Stanford Campus in Redwood City between May 17, 2024 and June 21, 2024. Also visit the library for a selection of materials on Juneteenth.

Mt. Zion Baptist Church Services
Pastor Fred Campbell extends an invitation to the community to visit and attend a Sunday church services. Juneteenth will be commemorated during every Sunday service throughout the month of June.

Kid Makers: Celebrate Juneteenth

Visual Arts Opening Exhibit @Stanford in Redwood City Campus
As the official opening of the Juneteenth art display, attendees will meet several of the artists whose works are displayed in Redwood City libraries throughout May and June. (free to the public). Register to attend.

Lois Fried, a poet based in Foster City, will discuss the impact of African American history and culture on America

Bookmaking with Lauren Toomer
We invite you to decorate pages for a special book using pressed flowers significant to African American heritage. Each page you create will be a piece of history, bound together with others' contributions to form a community-created book. Ultimately, this collective masterpiece will find its home at the Stanford Healthcare library.

San Mateo County Juneteenth Flag Raising
Please join Supervisor Noelia Corzo, the County of San Mateo Juneteenth Advisory Committee, and NAACP San Mateo to raise the Juneteenth flag with speakers and music to celebrate and promote awareness of the holiday.

Bravemaker: Movie on the Square
Experience the transformative power of courageous narratives! This event will showcase a series of short films by Black artists. Movies will include "Self" (7 minutes), "Choices" (12 minutes), and "The Moon is in Aquarius" (97 minutes).

Teens and adults are invited to discover the timeless beauty and significance of textile arts, one of the oldest forms of artistic express in human civilization.

A museum offering a range of cultural artifacts, all designed to educate and inform communities about Black History. Open Tuesdays-Saturdays 12pm-6pm and Sundays 12pm-5pm. Juneteenth Film Festival 2024 at San Mateo Public Library
The African American Library Advisory Committee presents the 2024 Juneteenth Film Festival. The films will be shown on the first Wednesday of each summer month, starting with Won't Back Down, starring Viola Davis and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

SMPL Juneteenth Film Festival
The Juneteenth Film Festival is resented by the African American Library Advisory Committee of San Mateo Public Library. This year, the films will be shown on the third Monday of the month during the summer, from 6-8pm in the Oak Room at the San Mateo Main Library . Light refreshments will be served.
