15 MPH School Zones: Enhancing Safety for Kids

Redwood City has implemented 15 MPH school zones to improve safety around schools and create safer, more comfortable routes for students and families. By encouraging drivers to slow down and stay alert, lower speed limits give drivers more time to react, reduce stopping distances, and help reduce the severity of collisions.

These school zones support students and families who walk, bike, and roll to and from school while encouraging safer, more active ways to travel. The 15 MPH zones are part of Redwood City’s ongoing efforts to create safer school communities and make walking, biking, and rolling a more comfortable choice for everyone.

Lowering Speed Limits Near Schools

Please refer to the map to see what streets the new speed limit zones will be located. The speed limits near school zones shall be in effect while children are going to or leaving school, either during school hours or during the noon recess period.
