Dolphin Park Playground Renovation Project
We Welcome Your Input!
Dolphin Park, located at Turkshead and Quay, is in need of a new playground, pathways and surfacing improvements, and an improved seating/picnic area. Last Fall, The Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Department notified park neighbors and invited the public to contribute input both in person and via survey, and has since held an online meeting to review all feedback and present a design concept to the community.
Please see below for meeting recaps and project updates.

Working with the contractor, the City was informed that the playground equipment has a delayed manufacturing time period. We now expect all equipment and parts to be delivered by June 1, 2023. City staff is working with the construction contractor on all other aspects of the project, and are working on timing for the start of construction to align with delivery of equipment so it’s ready for installation in a timely manner. We will provide updates as we become aware of new information. Thank you again for your patience.
The construction bid was awarded by the City Council to McNab Construction. Work on the new playground is set to begin in early 2023

O’Dell Engineering has completed the 100% construction drawings for the project and the bid documents are near finalization. Staff expects that the construction bid package will be available for submittals in early September, be open for 30 days and the a projected award of bid late October/early November. Further updates will be made as the project progresses.

Based on community feedback from our last meeting on January 13, O'Dell Engineering has revised the Dolphin Park area design. There will now be only two ADA compliant picnic tables as opposed to four, adult exercise equipment has been changed, the "noodle" play feature was removed, and an overhead shade structure was added over the playground to not only provide additional sun shield but to also provide a protective covering for the play equipment from tree droppings.
Thank you to everyone who has participated in this collaborative process! Additional comments may be submitted to Chris Beth, Director at cbeth@redwoodcity.org

Dolphin Park, Meeting #2
Based on the results of the 133 community survey responses and from the in-person open house meeting at the park on October 23, 2021, the design consultants provided preliminary concept plans for feedback.
The summary from this latest meeting includes:
- Positive response with overall concept
- Reduce proposed number of picnic tables from 4 to 2
- Remove decorative vertical tubing from play structure
- Add shade sails over play structure to help prevent sap and pine needles on structure
- Preferred color of playground as blue/light blue/teal
- Replace adult stretching fitness hub with another (suggested pull up bars and/or sit up planks)
- Add dog waste station(s)
Revised concept drawings will take approximately 2-3 weeks to complete and will be posted on this webpage. Additional comments may be submitted to Chris Beth, Director at cbeth@redwoodcity.org
