Jardín de Niños Expansion Project
Jardín de Niños Park Expansion Project
In 2016, the City purchased a 3,800 square foot lot adjacent to Jardín de Niños Park shortly after the park renovation in 2015. The existing park primarily serves children aged 2-12, and features post and platform play components. The newly purchased land, though narrow, would provide a new community space for teens and seniors in the neighborhood. During the park renovation community outreach process, community members expressed a desire for facilities that serve to a broader age range of park users. The design maximizes the use of the narrow space and includes a plaza with benches, provides tables equipped with power outlets for working or studying outdoors, includes a new an accessible pathway that connects a second entrance into the existing park, and a colorful and unique outdoor classroom shaded by an iconic structure that continues the artful elements in the park.
McNabb Construction has been hired to build the project. Construction started in late Jan 2025 and is anticipated to be completed in June 2025. Once the contractor is off the site, an artist follows with his work on the cladding of the shade structure. The artist will be at the site on and off during five months while parts of the cladding are built off site.
