Parks Recreation & Community Services Commission
The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission consists of seven members, appointed by the City Council for terms of four years each. At least five members will be residents of the City of Redwood City and no more than two members may reside in unincorporated Redwood City at one time. Continuously during their tenure, each member must be a resident of the City of Redwood City, or a resident of unincorporated Redwood City. A member appointed as a Redwood City resident may remain on the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission after they are no longer a resident, provided that they live in unincorporated Redwood City and further provided that the maximum of two such members has not been reached. Members must be at least 16 years of age.
The City Council, upon adopting the concept of an advisory recreation park commission, designated the following general duties and responsibilities of the Commission:
- Act in an advisory capacity to the City Council in policy matters pertaining to the acquisition and development of parks and the formulation of a recreation program to meet the needs of the citizens;
- Periodically review and make recommendations on the recreation and parks element of the City General Plan;
- Actively promote recreation and park activities within the City;
- Review and make recommendations to the City Council on the City Manager's annual proposed budget for recreation and parks from a pure policy standpoint, pertaining only to programs, levels of service, and capital improvements.
The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission meets regularly on the fourth Wednesday of each month and may meet in additional special sessions.
