Senior Affairs Commission
- ESTABLISHED; COMPOSITION; QUALIFICATIONS:
- There is hereby established a Senior Affairs Commission which shall consist of seven (7) members appointed by the City Council. At least four (4) such members shall be persons active in, and representative of, one or more of the following fields of endeavor:
- Senior residents' planning;
- Provision of senior residents' services;
- Senior clubs or senior associations.
- Senior residents' planning;
- All such members shall be persons who have demonstrated a deep interest in, and appreciation of, senior resident matters within the City. Not less than four (4) such members shall, at the time of their appointment and continuously during their incumbency, be residents of the City. It is the desire of the City Council that the Senior Affairs Commission reflect the diversity of the community.
- Members musts be at least 16 years of age.
- There is hereby established a Senior Affairs Commission which shall consist of seven (7) members appointed by the City Council. At least four (4) such members shall be persons active in, and representative of, one or more of the following fields of endeavor:
- TERMS OF OFFICE:
The term of office of each member of the Senior Affairs Commission shall be four (4) years, expiring on May 31 of the fourth year; provided, however, that appointments to the Commission shall be made such that terms shall expire in even-numbered years.
- PURPOSE:
The general objectives of the Senior Affairs Commission shall be to encourage, foster, facilitate, establish and maintain programs for the enhancement of all matters relating to the social, economic, and personal well-being of the senior population of the City.
- POWERS AND DUTIES:
The powers and duties of the Senior Affairs Commission shall be as follows:
- To recommend to the City Council or City Manager the establishment of programs by the City for senior residents in the City, and the establishment of programs which encourage and stimulate the development and maintenance of senior programs and services furnished by others in the City, and to review periodically such programs as are so established.
- To review and make recommendations to the City Council and City Manager regarding the funding of senior programs and services that operate within the City for the benefit of the senior population of the City.
- Upon request therefor, to advise the City Council and other boards, commissions, or committees of the City regarding any matter affecting the City's senior resident population.
FUNDING; USE OF CITY PROPERTY:
The City Council shall make such annual appropriations, and allow the use of such City property, real and personal, as the City Council may deem necessary for the purpose of carrying on the activities of the Senior Affairs Commission.
Regular meetings are scheduled on the second Thursday of each month.
