About the VMSC
Through the active collaboration of the Veterans Memorial Senior Center staff and the Redwood City Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department, the important role of advocacy for seniors and their stakeholders is promoted. Consistent with the documented direction of the Strategic Plan of Redwood City Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department and the commitment of the VMSC, the Center continues to grow in its effectiveness as a valued community institution.
The Center provides a pivotal range of services to the older community of Redwood City. These services focus on programs, activities, and information dedicated to and available for to the growing multi-cultural aging population, their caregivers and families.
The commitment of The Veterans Memorial Senior Center is to provide inclusive programs that enhance the older population in Redwood City focusing on health and wellness through a variety of social events, expressive arts, nutrition, fitness, educational, and recreational classes; plus social services support. It is our goal to create a quality program in partnership with older adults and people with disabilities in order to promote social activity, good health, preserve dignity and protect the quality of life of our patrons.

Special EventsThroughout the year, a variety of events are planned for socializing and fundraising purposes. Professional local artists and musicians collaborate with the center staff to offer wonderful quality events filled with pleasure and surprises for our community members. |
Food ServicesThe Veterans Memorial Senior Center provides in person senior (60+) lunch Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Lunches are being served snack-bar style which means everything is ordered a la carte and cooked by our Chef when you order it. A $10.00 “Blue Plate” is available Tuesday-Friday.

Classes & Ongoing programsThe classes and programs are designed for seniors age 50+ which bring a variety of people and exciting ideas to our center. Programs are focused on nutrition, social services support, health & wellness, fitness, expressive arts, computer education and recreational classes. Check out our latest Sentinel for more info!

Clubs & OrganizationsThe VMSC hosts a wide variety of Clubs. Whether you want to join a social group or would like to connect with a service based club, 10 groups meet at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center and would love to have you participate. |
Volunteer Program & PartnershipsThe center is an excellent example of a volunteer model. Over 150 volunteers work with staff to offer all of these exciting and positive programs, classes and events. |
Facility Rentals/Meeting RoomsThe senior center facility has several rooms at affordable rates for small or large meetings and social gatherings. |
Fair Oaks Adult Activity CenterIn 2000, Peninsula Family Service took over operation of the older adult program at the Fair Oaks Community Center. Over the years, they have expanded services to meet the ongoing and emerging needs of older adults looking to maintain their health, independence, and quality of life. Last year, they helped more than 3,000 participants age in place by offering nutritious meals, fitness classes, health screenings, and social activities for free or reduced costs. |
