The Patrol Division is the Department's largest organizational component and includes all uniformed officers who respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service as well as specialized functions such as the Patrol Unit, Marine Unit, Canine Officers, Community Policing Activities Team, School Resource Officer Program, Traffic Enforcement Unit and the Parking Enforcement Unit. Patrol Division personnel account for most of the interactions between the Police Department and the community.
In an average year, the division responds to over 77,000 different calls for service, ranging from in-progress crimes to parking violations.
Patrol Division personnel are managed at the operational level by patrol lieutenants serving as watch commanders and each patrol team is supervised by a police sergeant.
