Volunteers in Police Service
Program Purpose
The purpose of the Volunteers in Police Service (V.I.P.S.) program is to provide local community members with volunteer opportunities to use their skills and experience to assist the Police Department in providing a high level of service to the community, and to strengthen the relationship between the Department and the local Redwood City community. The V.I.P.S. program supplements the efforts of paid staff to facilitate services and programs, and is a great way to become familiar with the police department, its core values, and initiatives.
Main Volunteer Focus Areas
V.I.P.S. volunteers may elect to assist the Police Department in a variety of ways. The two main focus areas are:
Assistance with Event Management: V.I.P.S. volunteers work closely with sworn officers to provide a safe and welcoming environment during large events such as parades, festivals, Town Hall meetings and Citizen Police Academies.
Outreach and Public Education: V.I.P.S. volunteers routinely work with police officers and department leaders by providing crime prevention presentations and Neighborhood Watch meeting coordination.
