Student Outreach

Since 1994, Redwood City Public Works has reached thousands of students through various water conservation outreach programs. Each year we sponsor: an annual water conservation poster contest, EarthCapades Environmental Act, WaterWise kits for schools, and much more.

Water Conservation Poster Contest

Our annual Water Conservation Poster Contest is a fun and dynamic way for kids to express their understanding of water conservation. It is the centerpiece of the School education program, designed to promote water conservation awareness among Redwood City students in kindergarten through 5th grade.

2025 Poster Contest Winners Announced!

The Water Conservation Poster Contest is designed to bring water conservation awareness to the children of Redwood City. Schools throughout the City participated in the contest. With hundreds of creative posters to choose from, it was difficult for our judges to choose the winners.

The theme of this year’s contest is “Conserving with recycled water is our way - Violet does it every day”. This year we introduced students to the concept of recycled water. Cities across California are adding recycled water to their water portfolio as traditional water supplies grow tighter, Redwood City is no exception. Redwood City is reliant on just one potable water source from the Hetch Hetchy water system. Replacing drinking water with Recycled Water for non-potable uses such as toilet flushing and irrigation helps to stretch our drinking water supply. New commercial and multi-family buildings within the City’s Recycled Water Service Area are equipped to flush toilets, urinals, and irrigate with recycled water.
