March 7, 2020: The most recent guidance from the San Mateo County Health Department is that “all non-essential gatherings should be canceled, postponed, or done remotely.” In the spirit of that recommendation, for the health and safety of our community, the City is postponing all major library events scheduled for the period from Saturday, March 7 through Sunday, March 22. This includes the Human Library (March 7), Peninsula Comic Arts Festival Small Press Comics Expo (March 7), Juggler Owen Baker Flynn (March 11 at Fair Oaks, March 21 at Redwood Shores), Kindercard Super Saturday (March 14), and Library Takeover Drumming Circle Night at Fair Oaks (March 20).

The City wants to assure the community that this is being done as a preventative measure, based on an abundance of caution. The Redwood City Public Library’s four locations and the Project READ program will remain open for all regularly scheduled business hours. In addition, regularly scheduled activities and programs like storytimes, craft programs, and after school homework help, as well as smaller one-off events and activities, will continue for the time being, although we will be constantly reassessing all of these decisions as new information becomes available. Meetings scheduled by outside groups in Library meeting rooms are still taking place, unless the organizers of those events choose to cancel them. City staff is also temporarily removing shared toys and puppets from library spaces in order to sanitize them and keep them sanitized until the risk of potential exposure has passed.

Parks and Recreation programs are still running; however, to protect our most vulnerable populations, the City may cancel larger events, especially those which involve seniors.
