Join the City of Redwood City in celebrating Juneteenth through a variety of special programs throughout the month of June. A special Visual Arts Display will explore artwork created by artists from the local Bay Area, and across America. Displays will be hosted at the Downtown Library, the Redwood Shores Branch Library, the Stanford Campus in Redwood City and online during the month of June. The San Mateo Historical Association will also host a special Juneteenth Art Exhibit focused on the art of local San Mateo County artists.  The exhibit will be available in the San Mateo County History Museum Rotunda Mid-May through Mid-July. Also visit the library for a selection of materials on Juneteenth.

  • May 15, 2025 - July 20, 2025: Reflections of the Great Migration, Art exhibit featuring local San Mateo County artists, San Mateo County History Museum - 2200 Broadway, Redwood City

Library Storytimes
Throughout the month of June join the Library to celebrate Juneteenth at our storytimes which will feature stories on the themes of liberation, community, triumph, joy and freedom

Juneteenth Cooking Demo with Award Winning Stanford Chef
Stanford Chef Terry Brags will a variety of delectable dishes deeply rooted in the Black culinary tradition.

Due to illness, this program is cancelled. We hope to reschedule at a later date.

Celebrating Juneteenth, a Historical Perspective and Conversation with Lois Fried
Lois Fried, a poet based in Foster City, will discuss the impact of African American history and culture on America. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a mini poetry workshop and create their own historical poetry piece.

San Mateo County Juneteenth Flag Raising
Please join Supervisor Gauthier, the County of San Mateo Juneteenth Advisory Committee, and NAACP San Mateo to raise the Juneteenth flag with guest speakers, music and more to celebrate and promote awareness of the holiday.

Adult Makers: Juneteenth Gee's Bend Quilts
Learn about the history of the Gee's Bend quilting tradition, and create a decorative mini quilt to take home.

Juneteenth Poetry Night @ Canada College

The event has been cancelled due to low enrollment.

Join us for an open mic-night experience and hear poetry, spoken word and more from community members.Event offered in partnership with Canada College

Celebrate Juneteenth at Movies on the Square
Experience the transformative power of courageous narratives on June 19 with a special evening featuring BraveMaker’s spotlight on Black independent filmmakers, followed by the inspiring feature film, Bob Marley: One Love.

Domini Hoskins Black History Museum & Learning Center
A museum offering a range of cultural artifacts, all designed to educate and inform communities about Black History. Open Tuesdays-Saturdays 12pm-6pm and Sundays 12pm-5pm. School tours by appointment only. Admission; $15-Adults, $10-Seniors Ages 65+, $5-Children ages 5-17, Free-Children Under 5 & Teachers accompanying students.

SMPL Juneteenth Film Festival
The Juneteenth Film Festival is resented by the African American Library Advisory Committee of San Mateo Public Library. This year, the films will be shown on the third Monday of the month during the summer, from 6-8pm in the Oak Room at the San Mateo Main Library . Light refreshments will be served.

Juneteenth Author Talk
Authors J.R. Rice (Broken Pencils) and Lee Forrester (SPEAK: A Guide to Unleashing Every Woman's Voice), will share their stories and books at an author talk in the Council Chambers. Immediately followed by a book signing and red velvet cupcakes by Sweet Dreams Bakery, Colma.
